I remember when I was in high school, around 20 kilos overweight, I loved food so much, was always the first on the line at the canteen, bullying smaller weighted girls. At this time I had come to terms with the fact that I would never be as skinny as these girls. I had settled for being the big, food loving girl that I was and I was OK with that. In that time I thought I was never destined to look like those sporty girls from school.

Upon joining Uni, things got real, Like super real. Uni, well for a late bloomer like me, is where you find your mojo, Get your groove, start hunting, if you know what I mean.lol. My girlfriend was gorgeous, she had that sporty round bum paired with a waist for daays. I will call her X. Boys would drool at X when we walked by and I was always stuck with the feeling that, Oh well, I will never be the drooling factor, but will always be the sidekick.

I settled for that, well, for a while until I met a boy. I called dibs on him, He was mine. He straight up blew me away. X sort of got us talking, yes, my hot and super confident friend X. The more we talked, the more the crush grew and the more I built castles in the air. So one time X and I were walking to the library and I heard someone calling me, I turned back and it was my crush. X, being the amazing wingman she is walked fast ahead to allow me chat with him. The next words he said may have completely crushed me or built me in to the person I am today. He said,” Jenny, X is mighty fine, please may you hook me up with her,”

What was wrong with me? Why didn’t boys like me? But most importantly why didn’t I like me? So I took a long look in the mirror and I decided there is nothing wrong with me and I need to love me, So I resolved to do everything possible that would make me love me and I pressed PLAY.

That was my motivation. To Love me first. To take care of myself. I was done being the fat best friend who the boys found easier to talk to to get to my hot friend. So I did it, I went to my local CD shop and bought home workout videos and pressed Play.

It may be the hardest thing to do but once you actually press play, then everything will change for the better. We give so many excuses, waiting for the perfect moment to start taking care of ourselves; be it school, work or kids but trust me these excuses are just a way to cover up for the fact that we feel insufficient and not good enough.

So if you are out there and this message transcends directly to you, all you have to do is make that first step, Freaking start and everything else will fall in to place. I am not saying it’s going to be easy, but it hella will be worth it.
